SOBRIETY
I quit drinking a couple of years ago.
Being sober because I choose my health and mindset over anything else.
To be clear I was never a ‘crack a beer’ at the end of the day, drink every weekend kinda gal to begin with but your girl could get down with some drinkin.
It wasn’t until I started not-drinking that I learned something horrific about our culture…..people are very offended and/or uncomfortable when you don’t drink.
In this country, alcohol is the only drug that you’re expected to provide an explanation on why you DON’T use it.
It’s bizarre.
It’s not until you stop drinking that you realize how almost every single recreational thing people do revolves around drinking. It’s kind of crazy when you think about it.
Are we really all so unaware as a country that we have to drink to relax? Drink to enjoy ourselves? Drink to socialize?
These are all rhetorical questions, by the way.
Just something I’ve been pondering for a while now, years actually. It makes me sad, it makes me laugh, and it makes me incredibly happy to not have a life that revolves around drinking.
Did you know that in 8 years of our relationship Tony and I have never had a drunken fight? We’ve never had the morning after a night of partying with hangovers and hurt feelings. I’ve never had to smell yesterday’s beer on my boyfriend’s breath or clean up after him.
He’s never had to do that either and after his previous marriage to an alcoholic, my non-interest in getting drunk is a big bonus to him too.
I’m not writing this for any purpose other than to share something real about my life that you probably didn’t know and honestly to probably correct something you assumed was a norm for me just as it is for so many.
My hope as always is to possibly offer a look at a different perspective than the ones you might be surrounded by.
Much love. Live your life on purpose.

Be Grateful for Your Health
If you’re healthy, please be grateful for that. If you feel well, and physically capable most days, or all days, PLEASE be grateful for that.
Consistency Pays Off
It’s been a long long long journey of hard things, all of which I’ve handled like a champ but it’s different than feeling powerful and capable in your own flesh and bones again.
THE HIGHEST HIGHS…AND THE LOWEST LOWS
I’ve said this in conversations several times over the past week or so when coming across busy business owners who are trying to also manage life and feeling a little crazy along the way.
