“If you go into every day ‘waging war’ then war and struggle is exactly what you will get. It will always be hard.”
I was given this advice several years ago by a friend over lunch and it has proven to be one of the most impactful statements anyone has ever made to me…
That moment changed my course completely and led me down a path I couldn’t be more grateful for.
You see, if you approach each day as a war and view each scenario you are faced with as a battle… then why are you so surprised when it often feels harsh, ragey, heavy and like you’re required to carry around a massive shield to defend yourself constantly?
There IS another way.
And no it doesn’t mean you give up your strength. It doesn’t mean you’re not strong. It doesn’t mean you’re not prepared. And it certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t switch gears into that mode IF the situation presents itself. (Warrior in the garden you know)
But the truth is, those situations, the ones that feel like battle don’t arise nearly as often when you don’t go out looking for them.
War is sometimes necessary, yes. But it’s not a state of being… or at least it shouldn’t be.
You’re doing yourself (and those around you) quite a disservice if that’s the state of mind you’re choosing to be in.
So much is missed in that turmoil. So much is muted within the seeking of rage or triumph. Even though you think you’re a sniper and hyper focused, you’re still on the defense most of the time and in that place, you can’t see the other things that are happening around you…
The things that don’t require a sword or shield, arrow or gun.
The growth that comes from recognizing that you can be the most prepared and capable warrior out there, yet not choose to battle every day… that growth and fortitude is beyond anything I can describe to you.
It’s certainly something I wish all would strive to achieve because if strength is what you’re looking for, this is where you find it in its purest form.
This same message seemed to be running in my veins still as it came time to record this weeks podcast so join me in this episode as we debunk the use of these words and go through first, why they’re so damaging and secondly, how to start approaching life differently so it’s not always something that requires a sword and shield.
I also go into a bit of detail about how moving these emotions out of your space makes so much more room for what you actually desire.
This topic is close to my heart and I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed recording it.
