Well the truth is, I don’t.
Motivation has nothing to do with it. I don’t wake up everyday motivated to work my ass off. I don’t want to do all the things on my list, hit the gym, and eat the veggies instead of the cookies… but I still do it.
You see, you’ve got this whole thing twisted. Just because you constantly see me doing stuff and you have witnessed my growth, doesn’t mean that I’m super motivated all the time. It simply means I CHOOSE to do these things, even when I don’t really feel like it.
It comes down to drive. Are you driven to be in control of our own life?
It comes down to: How bad do you want it? If you REALLY want it, then you do the work. Even when you’re not feeling motivated. You do it anyway.
That’s the difference. That is the magic sauce you’re looking for. DRIVE.
Drive. Hustle. Commitment. Perseverance. Determination. Dedication. You can call it by any of those names but they’re all the same and they are ALL the missing piece.
Especially if you’re sitting around talking about how you’re “just not feeling motivated”… SO? What the hell does that matter? It’s certainly not an excuse to just sit there. And it’s certainly not the way to get what you want out of life.
Radical change requires radical change.
Making a call you normally wouldn’t.
Getting up when you don’t want to.
Sending the emails even though you’d rather watch tv.
Going to the gym when all you want to do is lay down.
Drinking the water even though all you want is more coffee.
Showing up everyday and being intentional with your time and decisions instead of just going through the motions.
Telling the truth when it’s easier to just lie.
None of these things are rocket science. They are all simple, basic tasks honestly. But they ARE the ticket to getting shit done. They ARE the ticket to getting what you want. They ARE the ticket to getting out of that funk. They ARE the ticket to moving forward versus standing still.
It’s all a game of choices. The arena may change but the game remains the same. You have to choose. You make choices thousands of times each day. And each time you do, you either move closer towards your goal or further away. Each choice counts.
Again, it’s all simple, basic choices. Are they easy? Not at all. But simple nonetheless.
That is usually what separates the people who have what they want from the people who simply talk about what they want.
Easy isn’t what they are looking for and difficult doesn’t stop them. Neither does ‘lack of motivation’. People who get what they want know when it comes down to it motivation has nothing to do with it and it all comes down to doing the work even when you don’t want to.
Please note: when I say the word “work” in this context I am referring to everything basically. IE: reading, mindset practices, journaling, eating healthy, working out, taking care of your household, paying your bills, handling your business, running your business, working your job, putting the cart back at the grocery store, dusting the shelves, being polite, being intentional with your words, treating people fairly…and the list goes on and on. When I say the word “work” I am referring to every choice you make to be a better person. Every conscious decision you make every day to push yourself forward in any way. THAT is doing the work.
